CONVICTS
More than 200 prisoner identification photos or “mugshots” taken by professional photographer Thomas J. Nevin (1842-1923) for the Tasmanian Police and Prisons Department 1870-1880s are held in several public collections. They are the earliest mugshots to survive.
Collections are held at the Archives Office of Tasmania, the National Library of Australia, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, the Mitchell Library NSW and some are held in private collections.
Visit Thomas J. Nevin’s weblog for details.
